Suffolk is an absolute haven for birds watchers, with the mixed landscapes of beaches, marshes, cliffs, heathlands, fenlands, reedbeds, and broads plus rivers and lakes, there is always something interesting to spot. Our nearest and most famous nature reserve is undoubtedly RSPB Minsmere, which aswell as birds, is home to some of the UK's rarest wildlife. Here, you can spot avocets, bearded tits, bitterns, marsh harrier, nightjars and sand martins to name but a view. There are many other RSPB Bird Reserves and Suffolk Wildlife Trust Nature Reserves across Suffolk.

We are very lucky to live in an area with some of the darkest skies and lowest light pollution in the country. Bring your telescope and gaze from the meadows outside your holiday accommodation. Or visit Stargazing in Suffolk to find some other recognised Dark Sky Discovery Sites nearby. Or, if you are a serious Star Gazer, visit the Seething Observatory, which is run by the Norwich Astronomical Society or the Orwell Park Observatory - both are open to the public on selected dates throughout the year.
With its distinct lack of hills, quiet country lanes and miles of coastal paths, Suffolk is a top destination for cyclists, whether you are lycra-clad or just cycling for fun. With so many routes to choose from, you will be spoilt for choice. Cycling UK has some great information including maps of routes on their website. If you are looking to hire bicycles for the duration of your stay then check out Suffolk Cycle Hire - who hire tourers, mountain bikes, electric bikes and a range of children's bikes, all delivered to your holiday home or a public place. Or Southwold Cycle Hire who also deliver, or you can collect from their beach hut and start your journey in Southwold.
